Tips on how to give Praise, encouragement and Reward for Children (#013)

Moving up and recognition ceremonies were done by schools to give recognition to deserving students for obtaining a good grades. For passing the class and moving to the next level after months of studying their lesson, doing their project, homework, waking up early going to school, now ends for this school year.

For those parent with their kids who received medals and recognition at their schools…CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE…  I’m sure parent are very proud to their kids achievement.

For those kids did not come up to be included in the awardees …Parent please do not criticized your child about it, instead be proud of them because they do their best and give them encouragement to do their best  again for the next school year.

Praise, encouragement and rewards are important to children to motivate them to do their task properly. It is used to make your child recognized between bad and good behaviors. When it is properly used.

Encouragement is used to motivate a child to strive more or improve something.

Rewards is an award to say “well done to children”, praise and encouragement work better through reward however it is not good to overuse reward.

 Reward and bribery is not the same. It must be explained to a child that the reward he/she received is for her good behavior. Do not give reward or gift even if he/she does not deserved try to discipline child that to make effort for the reward you gave, but not to inject to his/her mind that he/she will do good things because he will receive something on it. It is used to help the child to recognized between good and bad behavior, so that child will choose to be good and do good things so that good things will come. To let the child know the result of what he/she does and the result of it.

Here are some tips how to give Praise, encouragement and rewards to children;

 1. Praise your child when he/she do something good.  The word you say to your child can build up to have encouragement to do more good things.

2.  Praise your child more than you criticize.  Sometime parent see the mistakes of a child rather than the good things or behavior the child done. So praise your child more for every good things h/she done then when the child done wrong explained to him and criticize or say negative but explain what he/she does and tell the child not to do it again.

3. Accept that everyone’s different. Praise your child for his/her unique strengths and encourage he/she to develop her particular interests. It will help your child to develop a sense of confidence and pride.

4. See also for the little changes and success.  Look for the success even in simple way. Do not be perfectionist. Appreciate child little achievement rather than waiting until your child has done something perfectly to give a compliment, try to praise any little effort or improvement to your child.

5. Praise your child for their effort as well as their achievement.  Recognized and praise how hard your child is trying to do the some task.

6. Make your praise dependent on your child’s behavior. When she do bad things say something about it do not tolerate a bad behavior and when your child do good things praise him for doing such.

7. Surprise your child with a reward for good behavior and achievement.  You can give simple gift and say thank you for his/her initiatives to keep their toys, keep their bedding, washing their dishes, cleaning the house and helping you do household chores. A reward not means expensive material things like expensive gadget. Simple gift can d or maybe a treat to watched movie with family, or eat or prepared his/her favorite foods.  You can buy want you want for your child but do not overuse rewards for children.

          To parent, please do best to teach your children to realized to have good behavior by using praise, encouragement and reward properly. No matter how busy we are… So that children will learn that doing bad things is not good, even at their age. Parent have a very important role to their children to have a foundation for what behavior a child becomes.
