Important things parent should teach to their children (#005)

On my previous blogs on Parenting Tips.  As define by Wikipedia, the proper role of the parent is to provide encouragement, support, and access to activities that enable the child to master key developmental tasks. A parent is their child's first teacher and should remain their best teacher throughout life.

As we all know that a child is vulnerable to any form of abuse, Thus the role of parent is to teach their children for their proper development  and to protect their vulnerability , however parent not most of the time was at their children to protect them. In a situation that parent are working away from their home or any situation that their parent left to do some important things  and their children were left under the care of baby sitter or relative. That situation is crucial to children in which individual who has the intention to take advantage to a child has the opportunity to do his/her plan and usually abuse took place.

        As mother our children is our number one priority, however we have job to perform and we need to work to earn for living for our children and leaving our children to work is a kind of hard things to do everyday thinking of what our children is doing while we are away…thinking if their were okey, are they already ate their foods, take a bath, changes their clothes, take their vitamins do their homework etc. Along with this we want all the best for our children.

And that parent want the safety of their children and to avoid them from any form of danger and to avoid them to be victimized of abuse.

In this situation, parent should teach their children to protect themselves. Young children can adapt or understand things to avoid them not to be victim of abuse and Parent will be the first teacher to teach them to protect themselves.  And to parent out there and to the parent to be it is important know the basic things to teach to your children to teach them to know of what they should do to be safe.

Here are some Important things, parent should Teach to their children:

1. Teach your child to know their full name, home address, parent name and contact number and address. This is basic things to know specially if young child was lost parent can be located easily and returned them immediately to his/her family.

2. Teach your child how to use a telephone or cellphone for emergency purposes. Children are fast learner, they are curious for every things, so used their curiosity to teach them the use of telephone to seek assistance in case emergency or danger.

3. Teach your child about your contact information. You can post it in your house where your children will see your contact information, your cell phone Number, office number and address and teach them that they can contact you immediately in case of emergency and also remind them not to disclose your contact information to stranger.

4. Teach your child if you were away, who are their trusted adult to call if they’re  someone treat them in a way they make scared or have an emergency.

5. Teach your child not to go with stranger and not to go somewhere without your consent or advised.

6. Teach your child not to accept gift such candy, toys , money or anything from stranger. Abuser usually used trick such as giving gift to victimized young children.

7. Teach your child to tell you immediately if someone tries to touch or treat them in a way they make feel scared, uncomfortable or confused.

8. Teach your child of their body parts and teach them the part of their body that cannot be touch by anyone. 

9. Teach your child to say NO if someone touch them or make them feel scared, uncomfortable or confused.

10. Teach your child to immediately asked help or assistance to trusted adult and police Officers to help them. If someone touched them or treat them in a way they feel scared or uncomfortable.

11. Teach your child that the Police Officer is one of the persons that you must secure assistance or help if someone touched them or make them feel scared or abuse them. Do not use Police Officer as icon or scare crew/monster to scare them or to scare them that the Police Officer to arrest them or to put them into  jail, just to scare them. It will inject to their young mind that a police officer is someone to be scare off rather than a person to protect them. Because your child will not trust the police. What if your need help or assistance and the first person your child saw is a police officer. Trust me your child will not asked help to the police or will not disclose anything how the police immediately render assistance to you. The Police serve and Protect the People. To parent teach your child about it.  

12. Teach your child to be strong and to be smart.  And help them to understand that they have the right to be safe.

By one way or another we parent are the great teacher to our children to protect themselves even we are away from them. A undiscovered armor that they posses from within their instinct.
